Hey there, welcome! Let me introduce myself. I'm Xiu, a professional Latin dance instructor. You can call me Xiu, pronounced as 'See-you'. On the flip side, I'm also a full-stack software engineer, and my name is ThuyTien. It's pronounced as 'Twee-tien', but you can just call me Tien if that's easier.
I've been rocking the dance floor for more than 15 years now, and recently, I dived into the exciting world of tech. I graduated from CSULB with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science in May 2023, and currently working as a Software Engineer for Melissa Data. So, you could say I've got both sides of my brain pretty balanced, huh?

Let me share the story behind my names. In Vietnamese tradition, we put our last name in front, so my full name is Nguyễn Thị Thuỷ Tiên. When I moved to the U.S., it got rearranged to ThuyTien Nguyen. The meaning behind my given name is quite interesting. "Thuỷ Tiên" translates to the daffodil flower, while "Tiên" means fairy. Keeping my name short as “Tien” is easy for everyone but it’s quite different from what my grandma intended when she named me. So, I find it worth the trouble to keep my first name as ThuyTien.
Now, let's talk about my nickname, Xiu. It all started in 2007 when I took my first Salsa class. On my very first attempt, I flawlessly spun around five times. My friend was amazed and said, "Wow, you're super!" In Vietnamese, "super" is "siêu". With a little southern accent twist and a change in spelling, Xiu became my nickname. It also serves as my dance name, saving international folks from the trouble of pronouncing my real name incorrectly. Plus, it's a great pun! I always get a kick out of hearing someone say, "I See You, Xiu". It still puts a smile on my face every time!
Nobody asks but the website name is a pun, very intended. “Siêu việt” is another version of ”super”. “Việt” is also short for Vietnam. You see it now? What is ”xiuviet” then? Is she “Xiu from Vietnam” or is she the “super” one?!? Wow, I’m so clever.

Well, my darling, I'm always on the quest for knowledge! Just because I graduated from college doesn't mean the learning stops. Lately, I've been diving into some exciting new hobbies like sewing and jamming on the conga drums. Plus, I'm constantly studying a mix of subjects that tickle my curiosity, like cooking up delicious dishes, mastering JavaScript and web development, and, of course, perfecting my dance moves. You'll often catch me browsing through YouTube, watching a blend of mouthwatering recipes and frontend development solutions. Talk about a diverse feed!
Now, I must confess, college made me lose my love for reading. I'm determined to reignite that reading habit once again. A dear friend gifted me a research book all about Salsa dance as a graduation present. How perfect is that timing?
After all the hard work, I'm treating myself to a well-deserved break from the academia stress. I'm currently planning some fun trips to reconnect with my family and friends. It's the California summer, and I'm reveling in the joy of being school-free forever. I'm taking this time to enjoy life's little pleasures while keeping myself busy teaching private dance classes, leading group sessions, and coaching performers on a weekly basis. Life is laid-back and oh-so-enjoyable at the moment.
So there you have it, a glimpse into what's been going on in my world lately. Stay tuned for more adventures and updates!
